Map Gear at Locate23, Adelaide

The Map Gear team had a great trip to Adelaide for Locate23 – Australia’s premiere geospatial event. The exhibition provided a great opportunity to catch up with existing clients and showcase our latest products and software from Emlid and Ouster.

Supporting Geospatial Professionals

One of the highlights for the Map Gear team is to see the emerging talent within the geospatial industry.

Joram Downes was awarded Best Overall Presentation for his talk ‘Optimising Satellite Derived Bathymetry (SDB) using Multi-Spectral and Multi-Resolution Optical Satellite Imagery over the Adelaide Metro Coast‘.

Alistair presented Joram with a Tello drone to have some fun with in his spare time. These tiny drones are a great introduction for first time pilots.

Also at Locate were Paul Mead and his team from She Maps. These guys are doing great things introducing the geospatial industry to school groups through the drone workshops and cool schools workshop program.

“I’ve been flying the drone lots! It’s been a lot of fun and its helped me with my piloting skills.

I do a lot of photogrammetry to monitor southern Adelaide beaches for local councils, most of this uses automated flight paths, so free flight is not a strength of mine (until now).

Thanks Map Gear for supporting young professionals in spatial industries.”

Emlid Reach RX prizewinner

During the Locate23 event we ran a competition in partnership with Emlid to give away an Emlid Reach RX to one lucky visitor to out booth.

…and the winner is!

Gary Maguire from South Australia! We’ve sent Gary his prize and look forward to hearing how he finds his new Reach RX network rover. Watch this space!

More Locate23 highlights

The Locate crew put on a great event. One surprise was a hammer and chisel sitting next to a huge block of Haigh’s chocolates in the exhibition area.

Urgi from the Map Gear team got stuck in and got to sample this premium South Australian product.

Yum!
